Week 3

Hi,

Thank you for all the work that you have done so far and I hope that you will keep up with all the assignments of this course.

During this week we learned about Multiple Intelligences and 21st skills and how they can be applied to a language learning context.

I would also like you to watch the two videos about Cooperative learning and we can discuss them together next Monday during the lecture.

Part One - Cooperative Learning

Part two - Cooperative Learning

Now let us discuss about the assignment of Week - 3, the writing of the objectives. You know that completing a task successfully needs careful planning. Teaching, particularly, requires a lot of planning and it is very time consuming (Welcome to the real world of teachers! :-), so we need to design our objectives before we start with the planning and designing of the lesson. Who are my students, what are their abilities and knowledge, what I would like them to learn, and how am I going to measure their learning process. One way of writing objectives is by using the ABCD (Audience, Behaviour, Condition and Degree) model. ABCD model

Perhaps you might have heard about them before but now you are going to write your own objectives for a classroom that you will teach in the future. You will need to write three different objectives for three different types of activities/exercises that your are going to create.

Master students of English language (Audience) after reading about ABCD objectives (Condition) should be able to write (Behaviour) three objectives of their own (Degree).

Now comes the tricky part and the one that you are going to find more challenging: creating your own exercises or your own tests. There are a lot of ready made worksheets available on the internet by they do not alway reflect the content of your teaching, so sometimes there is a need for you to generate your own exercises. One exercise generator is the Hot Potatoes, where you can create a gap filling exercise, a crossword, an online multiple choice etc. There is a tutorial available on the homepage of Hot Potatoes.
Your ABCD objectives will be written for the exercises that your will have to generate yourself.
The links for the Dropbox are on the Class website under the page with the same name. I am also attaching them here.

Group A Dropbox

Group B Dropbox

And the very last thing for this week is the Dropbox. It plays the same function as Google Drive, it is just another way of sharing your information online and sharing it with others. When you create your exercises you can import them on a document and together with the exercise, you write the objective and in the end you share it with me on the Dropbox.

Your Blog post this week could be related to all the topics that are mentioned in this post.

Best,
T :)

  1. Hello professor, thank you for clarifying, the only thing that I still don't get is the part of the blog post this week, is it going to be something as a general overview regarding the aforementioned topics or something else because the hot patato exercises cannot be uploaded in the blog area. Would you be so kind as to address once again please? Thank you.

    1. Klesta my last sentence in the Blog is that the posting for this week could be for any of the topics mentioned in my post. Multiple Intelligences, 21st Century Skills, ABCD Model, Exercise Generators and you can relate them all to teaching.

Final step

Dear all,  I wish that everything is going well. We have reached the end of our class and this is the very last week of a very long and challenging academic year. I was pleased to teach the same course but with different students and personalities and it gives so much joy and motivates me to further my work.  This is not the last post but it is the last time that I give instructions for your assignments. You finished last week with your peer review task and you have now your report to refine and finish. You are supposed to upload them in the Dropbox by the end of the week. The deadline for this will be Sunday midnight.  Then it is my turn to read them all along with the other assignments and everything that you have done during this course.  I would like to wish you the best of success with your exams. Best,  T :)

Some tips for the peer review task and final report

Hi, As we are approaching almost the end of the assignments, I would like to make sure that you all understand the last assignments. This week's assignment is for you to choose a Peer Review Partner, which you have already done and attached you will have the document with your names and partners. If someone does not submit the report and you are left with no report to review,  please send me an email and let me know. Peer Review Partner The very last assignment, which is very important as it is part of the final examination, needs also considerable time. The first draft of your reflective essay/report will be uploaded on the Dropbox under Week 11 according to the respective deadlines for group A and B. Then your partner will work with your essay by activating the Track changes option on the Word document in order for their work and insert comments to be visible. In the end of the page you will also write a summary of your opinion for what you read and what needs to be changed...

The rest of the assignments

Hello again,  Congratulations to all the groups that have finished with the their mock teaching sessions. You have all displayed your abilities as future teachers and you have done that quite skilfully. What I would really like from you at this point is to become more independent students and not to expect everything from the teachers. With regard to the assignments that are left for the rest of the term, please refer again to the list of assignments and the class calendar, especially for the deadlines. Let me repeat again that all the assignments have to be uploaded in the Dropbox under the relevant weeks. The previous weeks have been removed from the Dropbox so that there will not be any problems with the uploading, however, they are stored in my PC.  We agreed that you upload the assignments of the last two weeks but you will not get full points.  Since we also agreed that the rest of the Blog posts will be topics that you will choose yourself, I would like to r...
