Week 4

Hello everyone,

Sorry for this late posting but you will have a very long weekend ahead of you. Even though we do not have classes both on Monday and Tuesday, you will continue with your assignments and posting as planned.

For this week, I would like to clarify once more the purpose of the Penzu (online journal). It is a program that you are being introduced to, so you can also use it in your classrooms in the future for writing purposes. It is a also a good tool for assessing the process rather than the product. As a teacher your should be more interested in learning about how your students are learning and how they are applying the new knowledge and the skills. So the online journal will be a good opportunity for you as students and teachers to note down your personal thoughts about the whole process when you will start preparing for your final project. Consider it as your best friend, to whom you will confide your difficulties or your achievements or any concerns that you might have. You are required to make an entry every week but you are more than welcome to write more often. You will not be sharing the entries yet but I will ask you later during the course to share them with me.

With regard to the blog post for this week, you will be writing about Cooperative Learning. I have shared the videos last week and I was told that not everyone had the possibility to watch them. Please watch both videos and that will be your food for thought. I am also sharing some materials with regard to Cooperative learning  so you can also use that as a material to reflect on.

There is another program/app that I would like you to be introduced to. It is called the Padlet. It is a great tool for sharing and collaborating (the underlying principle for Cooperative Learning). Since you are all going to work for a project, I would like you to learn more about Project Based Learning. Research for this topic and share your research on the Padlet. It is advisable that you read what are the benefits of using PBL in the classroom and what is the latest research in relation to PBL. The links for the Padlet are attached here and on the Class website as well. I have already shared the first material with you. There is no need to use the Dropbox this week.

Padlet Group B

A list of resources that will also help you to decide the topic of your Projects. Please you have to write the topics as soon as possible, otherwise you will be left with only a few weeks time to prepare.

If you have more questions, please let me know.

Enjoy the long weekend and Happy Holidays.

Best,
T

Final step

Dear all,  I wish that everything is going well. We have reached the end of our class and this is the very last week of a very long and challenging academic year. I was pleased to teach the same course but with different students and personalities and it gives so much joy and motivates me to further my work.  This is not the last post but it is the last time that I give instructions for your assignments. You finished last week with your peer review task and you have now your report to refine and finish. You are supposed to upload them in the Dropbox by the end of the week. The deadline for this will be Sunday midnight.  Then it is my turn to read them all along with the other assignments and everything that you have done during this course.  I would like to wish you the best of success with your exams. Best,  T :)

Some tips for the peer review task and final report

Hi, As we are approaching almost the end of the assignments, I would like to make sure that you all understand the last assignments. This week's assignment is for you to choose a Peer Review Partner, which you have already done and attached you will have the document with your names and partners. If someone does not submit the report and you are left with no report to review,  please send me an email and let me know. Peer Review Partner The very last assignment, which is very important as it is part of the final examination, needs also considerable time. The first draft of your reflective essay/report will be uploaded on the Dropbox under Week 11 according to the respective deadlines for group A and B. Then your partner will work with your essay by activating the Track changes option on the Word document in order for their work and insert comments to be visible. In the end of the page you will also write a summary of your opinion for what you read and what needs to be changed...

The rest of the assignments

Hello again,  Congratulations to all the groups that have finished with the their mock teaching sessions. You have all displayed your abilities as future teachers and you have done that quite skilfully. What I would really like from you at this point is to become more independent students and not to expect everything from the teachers. With regard to the assignments that are left for the rest of the term, please refer again to the list of assignments and the class calendar, especially for the deadlines. Let me repeat again that all the assignments have to be uploaded in the Dropbox under the relevant weeks. The previous weeks have been removed from the Dropbox so that there will not be any problems with the uploading, however, they are stored in my PC.  We agreed that you upload the assignments of the last two weeks but you will not get full points.  Since we also agreed that the rest of the Blog posts will be topics that you will choose yourself, I would like to r...
